advanced education in emergency management and critical infrastructure planning
ABOUT MSPCI
The Master in Strategic Planning for Critical Infrastructures (MSPCI) is offered by the UW Department of Urban Design and Planning. The fully accredited online master’s degree provides professionals throughout the nation with a complex understanding of critical infrastructures and their connections.

A blend of strategic planning and systems theory, this program follows a distinctive analytic approach different from the conventional emergency management methods. Critical systems can be attacked through various means and at different points. This program's analytic approach seeks to make the critical infrastructures more resilient to break-down, whether caused by terrorist acts, natural hazards, or normal accidents. The approach begins with a systems analysis that includes both process and information flows, and examination of environment, resources, and management.

Throughout this online program, students will learn to apply advanced strategic planning and decision-making strategies to:
  • Analyze the vulnerabilities of critical infrastructures
  • Plan responses to failures
  • Develop resilience strategies
Graduates will have skills to ensure the continuity of operations at any public, private, or government organization. They will understand how to respond to challenges, such as natural disasters and intentional attacks, that impact our nation's critical infrastructure systems.

The MSPCI program is guided by an advisory board of UW faculty and professionals in the field.
